The Canadian Section of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie announces its 2024 recipients of the Ordre de la Pléiade

Montreal, July 9, 2024 – The Canadian Branch of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF) is proud to announce the new recipients of the Ordre de la Pléiade for 2024.

This year, six exceptional individuals are being awarded the rank of Chevalier:

  • Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette, author, filmmaker and activist;
  • Hélène Dorion, author and artist;
  • Jean-François Lafleur, procedural clerk at the House of Commons, former Association secretary of the Canadian Branch of the APF;
  • Simon Larouche, procedural clerk at the House of Commons, former Canadian adviser to the APF Secretariat General;
  • Valérie Plante, Mayor of Montreal;
  • Benoît Roy, activist.

“It is with great pride that the Canadian Branch of the APF recognizes six new chevaliers of the Ordre de la Pléiade. Our recipients have made their mark in a variety of fields, while each contributing in their own way to the promotion of our language and our shared values,” said Francis Drouin, President of the APF and President of the Canadian Branch of the APF.

The Pléiade, the order honouring achievement in the Francophonie and dialogue among cultures, is awarded by the APF. Open to citizens of all nations, the Pléiade recognizes the exceptional merit of individuals who have distinguished themselves in their service to the ideals of the APF and the Francophonie. The five ranks of the Ordre de la Pléiade are Chevalier, Officier, Commandeur, Grand Officier and Grand-Croix.

The APF is the consultative assembly of the Francophonie and brings together parliamentarians of several parliaments or inter-parliamentary organizations on five continents. It aims to promote and defend the global influence of the French language and multilingualism, democracy and peace, respect for human rights and gender equality.
