SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Canada Labour Code to extend the period during which an employee may take compassionate care leave.

An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code (compassionate care leave)

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

R.‍S.‍, c. L-2

Canada Labour Code

1(1)Paragraph 206.‍3(3)‍(b) of the Canada Labour Code is replaced by the following:

  • Start of inserted block

    (b)that ends with

    • (i)the last day of the week in which the family member dies if the leave of absence started 27 weeks before that week,

    • (ii)the last day of the week following the week in which the family member dies if the leave of absence started more than 19 weeks before the week in which the family member dies but less than 27 weeks before that week,

    • (iii)the last day of the second week following the week in which the family member dies if the leave of absence started more than four weeks before the week in which the family member dies but less than 20 weeks before that week,

    • (iv)the last day of the third week following the week in which the family member dies if the leave of absence started less than five weeks before the week in which the family member dies, or

    • (v)the last day of the week in which the period of 52 weeks following the first day of the week referred to in paragraph (a) ends.

(2)Paragraph 206.‍3(4)‍(b) of the Act is replaced by the following:

  • (b)that shorter period applies for the purposes of subparagraph Insertion start (3)‍(b)‍(v) Insertion end .
