CANADIAN PARLIAMENTARIANS MEET WITH U.S. CONGRESSIONAL COUNTERPARTS
From 26–27 February 2019, the Honourable Wayne Easter, P.C., M.P., Co-Chair of the Canada–U.S. Inter-Parliamentary Group, and the Honourable Senator Robert Black traveled to Washington, D.C. for meetings on Capitol Hill.
“We were very pleased to meet with members of the United States House of Representatives and their staff, many of whom were recently elected to Congress as a result of the 2018 midterm elections,” said Mr. Easter. “The focus of these meetings was the importance of the Canada–U.S. relationship, the need to ratify the Canada United States Mexico Agreement, and the removal of section 232 tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum.”
Senator Black concluded: “Meeting with new members of the United States House of Representatives gave us the opportunity to build on the strong relationship our countries share, bring awareness to the issues that are important to Canadians and promote meaningful discussions between our nations. The relationships we formed in these meetings, and those solidified in our meetings with returning Members of Congress, help drive the policy discussions that benefit both our countries.”
