SUMMARY

This enactment sets standards for the use of food marketing terms that state or imply that the food is or is substantially based on dairy products. The basic list of dairy terms is set out in the Schedule and may be added to by the Minister.

The enactment also provides for restrictions on the use of dairy terms with respect to traditional dairy products. However, it allows their use in certain cases where the product is not a pure dairy product or one with the minor addition of other products, but does not contain any ingredient that is a substitute for milk.

The enactment provides for the designation of inspectors to enforce the Act, establishes offences and sets penalties.
