SUMMARY |

The purpose of this enactment is to establish a process of
consultation between governments, education professionals, industry,
labour, parents, youth, voluntary organizations and other sectors that
will facilitate the establishment of national education standards.

|
The standards are to include a standard age to which education shall
continue, improvements in core subjects, student motivation, teacher
development, better links with employers and more attention to
employment-oriented training, student assessments, credit transfers
and adult literacy programs.
|
|
|
The Minister of Industry has the responsibility of initiating the
process of consultation, initially through a conference with provincial
officials, and is to report to Parliament on progress.
