This bill provides that, before certain companies can sell lists
containing personal information obtained by them, they must send a
notice to every one whose name appears on the lists.
|
|
|
|
The notice must contain
|
|
|
|
(a) a detailed description of the personal information appearing on
the list;
|
|
|
|
(b) a request for the consent of each individual to having personal
information appear on the list; and
|
|
|
|
(c) a statement that the individual can request removal of the
personal information from the list.
|
|
|
|
In addition, companies that have purchased a list and use it for
business or charitable purposes must send a notice to every individual
who is contacted.
|
|
|
|
The notice must contain
|
|
|
|
(a) the source of the list;
|
|
|
|
(b) a detailed description of the personal information appearing on
the list; and
|
|
|
|
(c) a statement that the individual may request the removal of any
personal information from the list at any time.
|
|
|
|
This bill applies to companies that employ one or more people on or
in connection with a federal work, undertaking or business as defined
in section 2 of the Canada Labour Code.
