The Standing Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament met at 1:06 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Joint Chairs, Peter Goldring and the Hon. Marilyn Trenholme Counsell, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present representing the Senate: The Honourable Senators Hon. Jean Lapointe, Hon. Donald H. Oliver and Hon. Marilyn Trenholme Counsell.

 

Members of the Committee present representing the House of Commons: Mike Allen, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Blaine Calkins, Cheryl Gallant, Peter Goldring, Hon. Gurbax Malhi, Glen Douglas Pearson and Louis Plamondon.

 

In attendance: Senate: Adam Thompson, Joint Clerk of the Committee. Library of Parliament: James Robertson, Principal; Tim Williams, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business, namely the review of the mandate of the Joint Committee and discussion of activities for Fall 2007.
 

It was agreed, — That the Clerks and Analysts develop a workplan for September 2007 based on the Committee's discussions.

 

On motion of Gerry Byrne, it was agreed, — That the Commmittee invite senior managers from the Library of Parliament for a briefing session on the Library's actvities, services, and key issues; and that background documentation be provided (e.g. the Library's mandate, role, organization chart, etc.).

 

On motion of Glen Douglas Pearson, it was agreed, — That unless another suitable time is found, the Committee schedule its meetings in September on Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., and that a lunch be provided.

 

At 1:36 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
