An Act to amend the Criminal Code (attempting to disarm a peace officer)

R.S., 1985, c. C-46

      Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1. The Criminal Code is amended by adding the following after section 270:

Disarming a peace officer

270.1 Every one who

    (a) disarms or attempts to disarm a peace officer engaged in the execution of duty, or

    (b) wilfully interferes with protective equipment issued to a peace officer,

is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.

2. Paragraph 553(c) of the Act is amended by adding the following after subparagraph (vii):

      (vii.1) section 270.1 (disarming a peace officer).
